Opportunity Zones and SDAC’s Incubator Program

2 min read
SDAC has made a strategic investment in an Alabama-based Opportunity Zone (OZ) which is coincidentally located in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone). The purchase of 270 acres was made possible through the creation of an Opportunity Zone Fund which will also be utilized to finance future SDAC operations and our planned Incubator Program.

SDAC purchased the acreage as a base for our Civil Construction operations and to house 50-60 new employees. SDAC’s Civil Division is gearing up for the expected opportunities in Central Alabama. With the F-35 Fighter Jets coming in at Dannelly Field, there is tremendous growth expected in the region. The program is expected to trigger a significant surge in requirements for improved and new airfields, infrastructure, and much more.

Through this OZ location, SDAC’s goal is not only to grow our own business, but also to assist other small minority-owned, disadvantaged businesses to be successful. Utilizing SDAC’s existing concrete plant, experienced personnel, heavy equipment and other resources, we are excited to present an Incubator Program for entrepreneurs in the field of civil construction. Companies who participate in the Incubator Program will go through a four-month process to learn the various aspects of concrete equipment, processes and applications. SDAC’s Incubator Program coupled with the incentives offered in the OZ program will contribute to the emergence of viable small businesses representing various socio-economic sectors.

The opportunities are vast – in federal, state, local and commercial projects. SDAC’s extensive experience, both as a federal contractor and with the DBE/MBE programs, provides the basis for our Incubator Program. Since 2010, SDAC’s company has tripled in size and currently employs over 200 people. Owner Paul Morrow and the SDAC Team are excited to be able to make a worthwhile difference in our region and empower the lives of many people through the tremendous advantages offered in the Opportunity Zone program.
